Aku Cinta Kamu!
Aku kembali! (I’m back!) Yes, judging by the title, you may conclude that I am in love. Really in love. Falling in love. Head over heels in love~ So how can you express your love in Indonesian? The most common way would be by saying: Aku cinta kamu Aku sayang kamu But there is also, ‘gue sayang ama lo’. Teens love to use ‘gue: me’ and ‘lo: you’....

StudyIndonesian: Indonesian Pronouncation →
This link takes you to a page on StudyIndonesian.com where it explains how to pronounce the Indonesian alphabets. I like this website particularly because the man John L. Whiteman, calls himself a bule :P It’s a great website with dictionaries made by the webmaster himself. Unfortunately, this website has been inactive since it’s last website journal on 8 January, 2008.

Let's Go Shopping!
In most tourist shopping markets, you could bargain the price of goods. If you are not sure whether you could bargain or not, ask the seller: “Bisakah saya menawar harganya?” (Can I bargain the price?) You will also need to know the Indonesian currency. Below is the list of money Indonesians use with its picture. ~ This coin has the smallest value. It is a ‘Seratus Rupiah’ coin. ~ This coin is...

Things That Might Shock You... (2)
Hi everyone! This post is a continuation from the first ‘Things That Might Shock You’ post. It is very important for you to understand a few from the very many mistakes, we Indonesian do in the attempt to practice our English :) This time, it is about Indonesians asking questions like: 1# Where are you going? I know, you might think, “What a nosy person! Why does he/she want to know?’. Well,...

Dining in A Restaurant
You are dining in a restaurant. Below is the conversation that takes place in the restaurant.
You: Tolong, satu meja untuk dua orang.
You: A table for two please.
Waitress: Silahkan duduk disini.
Waitress: Please sit here.
You: Bisa saya lihat menunya?
You: Can I look at the menu?
Waitress: Ini menunya.
Waitress: Here is the menu.
You: Saya mau pesan ayam bakar dan mie goreng.
You: I want to order ayam bakar (grilled chicken) and mie goreng (fried noodles)
Waitress: Minumannya?
Waitress: And the drink?
You: Jus orange.
You: Orange juice.
Waitress: Saya ulangi ya pak/bu. Satu ayam bakar, satu mie goreng, dan satu jus orange. Ada lagi?
Waitress: I’ll repeat your order sir/mam. One grilled chicken, one fried noodles, and one orange juice. Is there anything else?
You: Sudah cukup untuk sekarang.
You: That’s it for now.
Waitress: Tolong pesanannya ditunggu ya pak/bu.
Waitress: Please wait for your food sir/mam.
After you have eaten.
You: Mbak-mbak!
You: Excuse me, waitress!
Waitress: Ada yang bisa saya bantu?
Waitress: Is there anything I could help you?
You: Saya ingin membayar.
You: I would like to pay.

Asking for Directions
You are a traveler, traveling in Indonesia. You got lost and want to ask for directions to an Indonesian.
You: Maaf pak/bu, boleh saya bertanya?
You: Excuse me sir/mam, can I ask something?
Indo: Boleh, mau tanya apa?
Indo: Of course, what do you want to ask?
You: Saya ingin pergi ke Jalan Mawar. Tapi saya tidak tahu harus ke mana.
You: I want to go to Jalan Mawar. But I don't know which way.
Indo: Dari sini, Anda belok kiri, lalu jalan terus. Ada sebuah lorong tepat di depan supermarket kecil. Masuk lorong itu, lalu belok kanan di belokan pertama yang Anda lihat.
Indo: From here, turn left, and walk straight. There's an alley right in front of a supermarket. Go into the alley and turn right on the first turn you can see.
You: Terimakasih banyak untuk petunjuknya!
You: Thank you very much for the directions!
Indo: Sama-sama.
Indo: You're welcome.

Things That Might Shock You...
Hi everyone! I’m back with some stories that I would like to share with you all. It is very important to you to understand, so you would not be surprised or even offended by it. It’s all about expressions in English that Indonesians may use without knowing that it’s actually impolite to say in the English culture. First example is the usage of Mr, Mrs, Miss and Ms. I learned from my teacher at...

Daily Greetings
Hi everyone! This first post is very exciting for me and not to mention it is very difficult to think of what to ‘teach’ first. I thought that daily greetings and introduction would be best for now. I’ll write the greetings first in English then in Indonesian. Good Morning = Selamat Pagi Good Afternoon = Selamat Sore Good Evening/Good Night = Selamat Malam There is also a greeting ‘Selamat Siang’....
